Somehow my father has become successful in making all of his children sea food addicts for his own sea food addiction and somewhat successful in making my mom ok with it all.
One interesting outcome of that endeavour is we all have learnt to handle a wide variety of fishes like pros; identifying the freshness of a fish just by looking at it, cleaning, preparing all sort of curries, exact time required to fry each variety, knowing exact taste of a wide variety fishes. But guess who sees all of these as a little too much often? MOM..
Once we daughters learnt to clean fish, she was so relieved to be taken off that duty followed to be put at ease by my sister's interest in cooking. Yeah that ideal single daughter of a pampering father, younger sister to a loving brother and that only girl cousin to three beloved brothers, was totally holding the reign once.. However after we kids flew away to remote locations for our studies and career building prospects, she made my father adapt to the habit of bringing home only cut and cleaned fish. Yeah that's the area which she is least fond of..
And after a week of dealing with my resting old man single-handedly(which at first was presented to me as a herculean situation by my beloved lady), this weekend the first thing she send through to both of us was this lovely pic of their Saturday brunch back at home.. My father was examining the pic thoroughly to which i enquired shall i order biriyani for lunch? He replied," no we had a steady breakfast today(which was a usual puttu and greenpeas masala (he hates this dish but i loveyyy)) so we can order it in the evening if we feel like that. Now make some juice for me, that's enough."
And then he added, "but don't tell this to mom, next week I'm going back home", you know, with an interesting expression which comes only once in a while.. well, this guy 🤫😀
